Many Carrier Oils & Base Oils and Their Benefits

Carrier Oils Base Oils are typically fatty oils which are extracted from the fatty portions of the parent plant. The method which is used to extract these carrier oils & Base Oils is cold pressed method. Specifically the cold pressed method is being used to extract carrier oils from the fatty portions of the plants as this method extracts the best quality and quantity without affecting the natural content in the plant within.

We can understand carrier oil as a vegetable oil which is basically derived from the fatty portion of a plant usually which is called seeds, kernels or the nuts. Carrier oils are used to dilute essential and other oils prior to topical application. The term carrier oil is derived from their purpose in carrying the essential oil onto the skin.

Which oils are considered as Best Carrier Oils

Best quality carrier oils are cold pressed and are made from plants. Cold pressed oils hold onto more of their beneficial properties since they are not subjected to heat. It’s also best to choose unrefined oils that have no additives. Commonly carrier oils are vegetable oils which are used to dilute Pure essential oils so they are safe to apply to the skin. Butter and other animal fats are not good choices for carrier oil because the fatty acid profile doesn’t allow the oil to absorb into the skin.

However there are a few exceptions such as Emu oil. Many people use Emu oil as a carrier oil because it contains no phosphorous allowing it to absorb well into the skin.
